Brown Lacewings are here!

brown lacewing3

And just in time, too because Foxglove Aphid is rearing it’s head! For those of you who had problems with Mealybug and Leafhoppers last year, Brown Lacewings could be an effective beneficial for you this year.

The Brown Lacewing is long lived, and shipped as an adult. Remember that the exceptional difference here between the Green Lacewing and the Brown Lacewing is that the Brown Lacewing adult continues to feed throughout its full life cycle, whereas the Green Lacewing only feeds as larvae.

Supplementing food source with pollen or protein (habitat) is very helpful. Last year we developed a food resource for this insect called Bug Feast, which is available for $8.95/lb. It goes a long way, and will also help with other generalist predators as a food supplement for all lacewings, ladybugs, and more. Let’s talk if you have concerns about establishing this important beneficial insect, as we may have additional ideas for you!
