FOR YOUR FILES: Anagyrus pseudococci Tech Sheet (PDF)

  • Anagyrus pseudococci is a solitary parasitoid wasp of mealybugs. It belongs to the family Encyrtidae of the Mediterranean origin. Anagyrus is a well-known parasitoid of Planococcus spp.and Pseudococcus spp. mealybugs in greenhouses as well as field and fruit crops worldwide. Anagyrus is ideal for mealybug pests on grapes and citrus.

Ant control is important where Anagyrus are present because ants will disrupt the ability of the parasites to oviposit. Pesticides and even wetting agents and spreader-stickers may adversely affect Anagyrus survival.

  • Minimum 1 wasp for every 5 square foot of crop canopy
  • Anagyrus are shipped as adults and are ready for release upon arrival. They should be released in the early morning, after temperatures have risen above 45°F (7°C), but while they are still under 95°F (35°C). To release, leave container open and on its side in a tree or other crop, or walk through infested area and gently wave the container 2-3 times for a more rapid release.
