TARGET PEST: spider mite
FOR YOUR FILES: Feltiella acarisuga Tech Sheet
- Feltiella acarisuga is a gall midge that devours spider mites. The four larval stages all eat spider mites at a rate of about 5 times more than P. persimilis. After about one week, the larvae pupate. The fully-grown larvae are 1.7 to 1.9 mm long and have a diameter of 0.4 mm. The pupae of Feltiella look like white fluff and are usually found near the veins of the leaf. They are 1 to 1.5 mm long. The total life cycle varies with temperature, but generally takes about 2 to 4 weeks. Feltiella is active in cold and dark conditions which make it an appropriate predator for spring and fall. The adult flying capabilities allow it to effectively seek out hot spots.
- Approximately 500-1000 per acre.
- Open the container in the infested area and allow the midges to emerge.
