Description

Also known as the Crazee mite or Whirligig mite, Anystis is a generalist feeder.  Adults are relatively large, roughly twice the size as an adult persimilis. These natural predators are bright orange or red in color with noticeable hairs on legs and abdomen. They move extremely fast, often running in erratic patterns.

Anystis baccarum is well suited for both outdoor applications in gardens and field crops as well as indoors in greenhouses, nurseries and on house plants.

Combine with other beneficial insects and mites for best control. For thrips, use A. cucumeris and for mealybug, combine with Cryptolaemus. Optimum conditions are 75ºF and humidity over 70%RH. 

Target pests are Thrips, Aphids, Spider Mites, Whitefly, Echinothrips, Mealybug, Psyllid, Soft Scale, Root and Foxglove Aphids and more.

Life Cycle

A complete life cycle of this biocontrol agent takes approximately 4 weeks from egg to adult. Anystis mites have 1 larval and 3 nymph stages before reaching maturity. All stages are predatory and all mites are female. Adults live up to 3 weeks during which they continually feed. Eggs are typically laid in loose substrate in small clusters of 15-30 eggs several times during the adult stage. Eggs and larval stages prefer moist, warm conditions but will still develop as low as 50ºF.

Application Rates

Preventative rate is 0.25 mites per square foot. Increase for quick knock-down. This number will vary based on crop, pest pressure and environment. 

Instructions for Use

Aphid control is best achieved with preventative applications of Crazee Mites .25/sq. ft. as needed, and regular preventative releases of Aphidoletes every 3 weeks during peak aphid season.

Spider mite control is best with Amblyseius fallacis introduced preventatively at a rate of 2 mites/sq. ft., followed by a Crazee Mite application of 0.25/sq. ft.

Thrips control is best achieved with an introductory rate of Crazee Mites and reapplied as needed, with regular releases of Amblyseius cucumeris every 4-5 weeks as needed.
